Extel poles splitting??
« on: August 18, 2010, 10:28:00 pm »
Anyone else had problems with them? Mine split at the top of section two (counting from the base) so i assumed its down to me and ordered a replacement section. On seperating the pole to replace the section i find that section three is split at the bottom. The stop was still intact.

Only had it for two months. Spoke to a mate of mine tonight who uses a lot of them and he's says he's had quite a few go like that and though it was down to lack of care by the lads. Mine's not bee knocked about. Only used it as its meant to be used.
Beginning to think i should of stuck with the facelift ones i have, no stops on them though but seem to be a better quality pole. Take it on the chin or should i raise the issue with supplier?

Take it up with the supplier, if its a manufacturing fault they should fix it. You will have to send it back I think.

Make sure you have enough overlap, as you might be straining the end. They do go thin at the bottom after a while, but my wifes has lasted nearly 2 yrs and still going strong. I think we use an overlap of half a foot.

What size is that? I know some of you will roll your eyes, but for £15 get a Harris pole! I found the reciept for my original one other day, it lasted me a year, and i only got a new one cause the top clamp didnt hold it tight enough. Theyre more rigid and more hard wearing.

I used to use extel poles, and at £120 a pop and yes they did crack after a few months of use...i know which is the smarter choice

I have had this happen a few times on these poles, I put it down to the end stop being worn, and the ends hitting ground which seems what is happening to yours, where the fibre glass is cut it is weak you bang on floor it starts to split, you then extend pole which makes the split worse anf follow same pattern till it breaks.  Why not try replacing the end stops more often or dont stand the pole on the floor ???

No ends have hit the ground. The pole is two months old, how often would you recommend to change the stops?

as soon as they wear, It reley depnds on how much you use it, they are about £1.50 each if that so once a month if that, I never did, then I got split poles like yours.

over extend and the same will happen, get some spray paint and spray on a marker to not over extend (again I never did this but this would save you breaking poles so often.

xtels with hard wear no maintenance lasted about 6/8 months 2 months is shocking, do you wash out the pole ??

Yeah i rinse it through. When you say the stops are £1.50, where is that? I thought they where just a wrap of what looked like insulating tape?
