« on: August 09, 2010, 06:45:22 pm »
cleaned a carpet today [cream yeah i know cream]
anyway not sure of age but looked like it had been down since the war.
black walkway ect ect .
so cleaned it and made a good job even if i say so myself ,looked 80% better [remember we carnt get ALL the dirt out can we??]
then the little old angel [god bless] says carnt you get it any cleaner .
i said that i thought it had come up fantastic .
then and i think you know whats coming  coz its happened to me a few times
she only goes and moves the sofa .
look thats what its supposed to look like .
i got that sinking feeling and the hairs were starting to stand up on the back of my neck [not good]
yeah  yeah but you never walk on that bit ever.
WELL I THOUGHT YOU WERE SUPOSED TO BE A CARPET CLEANER
i could visualise my hands around her neck at this point.
so i feel much better for getting that off my chest
by the way dident freek out never any point in that. just said that was the best i could do  and kept my thoughts to myself.

Oh no, is it gonna be one of them weeks? ;D

I've just had a conversation with an old Scottish dear who said I'd been highly recommended by Denise (I've worked for a few Denises and she couldn't remember her surname ???)

I quoted £100 on the nose and she said "Oh no, that expensive? I only want them lightly shampoo'd!"

"Here we go" I thought, but managed to persuade her that she would get great value for money...

I wouldn't care, but the first thing she said on the phone was "I need my carpets cleaned, whatever the cost!" Hahaha, I love old folk sometimes, couldn't eat a whole one though ;D

Did you explain that she was in "as new" condition once but was now looking a bit worn in the traffic areas?   ;D

Dont ya just love em!

on an upholstery job the women was concerned because the last cleaner said he couldnt do it ( i dont for the life of me know why not ). I reasured her that there would be no problems and offered her a test clean of a cushion.

i cleaned the cushion and showed the result, her reply........oh yes you can see the difference.....and you could try a bit harder!! :-X :-X :-X

And on the price.....oh the last cleaner said 20 pound  :o .....Yes but he also said he couldnt do it

I'll go easy on you here, but didn't you explain all this when you first saw the job?
It's during this stage that you can stop all these stupid comments and expectations.
Explain what can be done and what can't, hey, if you're really brave down sell the expectated result but actually achieve above it. That makes you look good and detracts them away from other issues like that 'brand new' piece of carpet that has been under the settee/wall unit for the last 10 years.

Oh no, is it gonna be one of them weeks? ;D

Yip it is >:( A couple of a certain ethnic origin had ummed and ahhed about getting their new house carpets cleaned. Not a new house but one they've just bought and was empty. Of course he wasn't there when we arrived and she was doing a good job of 'not understanding' the price and the way we were going to do it (went through the full procedure again).
At the end when packing away she chirps up with are you going to get those dents out? You know the ones furniture leave particulary very heavy furniture.
It makes you wonder which part of carpet and cleaning do you not understand ;D

I dont suppose i am the only one, but i always undersell the results, that way they are more often than not delighted, i would never ever say i expect the results to be good, i explain what i will do but add see the carpet in the corner it will not come out like that because thats never had any traffic on it etc etc, if i do think it's going to come up well i just give the quote explain the methods used thats it.

yeah your all right about under selling but theres only so much you can say .
and we all know what we should have done.[thanks for being easy on me]
what i mean is [and im sure you all know what i mean]
you carnt say you want it cleaned.  i think you should put it on the tip love.
or did something die on this.  if we were to be truthful  we would say .
20men in 20 years couldn't clean this carpet its gone .
if we could there would be no carpets ever replaced and we would charge a lot more
