Quick bit of info please.
« on: May 24, 2010, 05:09:31 pm »
Am going to look at a job in 3 hrs (and may be doing it there and then).

The client was filling a swiming pool and went off while it was filling....yep, it overflowed and went into the livingroom (not sure how from outside). Anyway the affected area (of just water) is 12 x 12 foot.

No underlay down, just concreate underneath. The carpet is 'old' (from what im aware its bog standard low price lettings carpet)and it's only happened in the last hour.

1) whats best way to go about this (they just want it dry as it rented).

2)what kind of cost would you charge (should i charge my normal rate or more as it 'flooded'.

Cheers in advance  :)

Extraction & labour at whatever hourly rate you think is appropriate, medium dehum circa £13/day, airmover circa £5/day, interim visit £20-30 a time.

Or you could subcontract someone experienced in restoration, that way you won't end up carrying the can if the building isn't dried properly and causes another £5000 worth of damage down the line ;)

There are some new courses being developed under the RIA umbrella. These should be top notch. Cost will be near £500 quid for 2 day course I would think.

Its helpful to have the knowledge for when the opportunity arises to do some of this work.
However anyone thinking of getting into it full time at the moment I would think again. It is dead.

Would have thought that with insurance nowadays if you have a fire or flood
it would just be a case of rip it all out, dry and deodorise it and replace with new.
Used to see posts on here of carpets been cleaned after a flooding.
Why would you want to do that?
Would of thought that fire and flood restoration would be more suited to a builder.

Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

A big part of the work is dealing with the contents. All damaged items need to be photographed, model numbers listed etc.
Fire damaged properties need to be decontaminated before builders will set foot in them.
A lot of builders are moving in to the drying side now, they want all the cream and leave the crap to the restoration companies.
