Roundtracker and Gardiners
« on: April 23, 2010, 03:53:21 pm »
Looks like some of the big names are cranking up with new products.

I've been priveldged enough to have a play with the new Roundtracker PRO. As some of you will know, I was a newbie this time last year. Before I started I went through each of George, WCP and Roundtracker v4 and looked at the pros and cons of each. I felt Roundtracker was the best option for me and to be honest i'm damned glad I went with it. It's the best £25 I have ever spent!

I did (still do) have a problem with backing Roundtracker up to an external hard drive, and commented on this forum and others to see if others had a similar problem. Mark from Roundtracker contacted me directly and tried to help out, but seems it might be a problem with my external drive, rather than Roundtracker; I now backup to Dropbox and a CD ROM. As a result of the conversations Mark sent me a pre-release copy of Roundtracker PRO late last week and i've been running it in tandem with my old v4 copy ever since. I can tell you what boys (and girls) it's a cracker - very easy to use and much more functionality than v4. I have made a few suggestions and there do need to be a few tweaks made but I can recommend that you should definitely sign up to the Roundtracker forum and download a test copy if you are thinking of buying or changing software. http://roundtracker.takeforum.com/

I crunched my SLX yesterday, shattering the end of section 2. I hacksawed a bit off but needed a new clamp so went to the Gardiners site. Has anyone seen that they are revamping the SLX and there is going to be a new 'CLX':

Let's see what the new modifications are...!

Hopefully they will be better wearing than the smax I bought.
I've always been Gardiners No1 fan but my last pole isn't too hot in the wear department.
I think they are bringing out a matt finish to slow the wear down. Alex reckons the premature wear is just the shiny resin coat rubbing off. Think my pole is a couple of months old now and it is as worn as the year old one I sold on.

So are the carbon composite (cl-x) poles going to in competition with Ionics Glyder?

Should imagine the CL-X will have a similar coating as the new coating applied to the Xtel-carbon poles just come out at £200 extra for a 40ft version. Bought a replacement 40ft carbon xtel old version as the wear and tear can't be any worse than the SL-X plus the clamps are a llot quicker and easier to use.
