anyone use mobile card payment ?
« on: May 05, 2010, 11:54:22 pm »
Wondered if anyone uses the mobile card payment machine ?

Am fed up of collecting and people not being in / not having any money when they know I'm coming. I'm wasting so much time going back when it suits them.

I'm thinking that I can use it on the door or if there not in that I can ring them over the phone.

So if you use one... Can you answer a few questions please...

1) What % do you pay roughly per transaction ?
2) What's the rental like or how much are they to buy ?
3) How are customers with it ?
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

I set up a seperate account at the bank and get customers to pay direct into that. all they need is the acc number and sort code.
it took a while but now about 30% of my customers use it.
I am soon going to inform evryone that from next year I am introducing a small charge for cheques (about 30p) to encourage more people to pay online.
If you have a business account, online payments is the cheapest way.

Hi Blue Frog

Yes we have a hand held system it is called PRONTO and made by Verifone

We pay 1.5% per transaction (well the customer pays it ) and the rental is £38 per month

Customers like it and it makes it easy for add ons such as gutters or cons, the customer is just like us when go shopping, you always spend more on a card as its not due to paid that day

Signal wise wherever you get a phone signal the machine works and we also use it for telephone payments especially for a big job where we can take the deposit

We got it from our bank RBS and have had no problems with it

If there is a downside it is the 18 month contract however there are shorter terms available but you pay more

Anything else I can tell you let me know

Cheers

Still doesn't solve the problem of the "Not at Home" custies. Actualy sounds a very good idea and something I may look into in the future when I've got a full round, I could offer the options of - if home when I do the clean; Cash, Cheque, or Card(using mobile system) if there not at home; Cheque in the post or online payment, or even using card over the phone.

That's an overkill for my own humble business, but I'm impressed with this payment system.

Well done and I particularly like how you use it for add-ons, big job deposits, and that it will take credit cards.
