Beginner Shopping?
« on: April 20, 2010, 11:40:04 am »
Hi Guys!

I am starting soon and will be ordering some equipment today.  :) I am thinking of getting Unger ergotec squeegee and T-bar, Unger Microstrip sleeve, a few scrims and 10 Unger microwipes.

My problem is choosing:
1. Detergent. - I would like something which will make things easy for a beginner, hence I thought about getting Squeegee Off, but not sure.
2. Scrims and Cloths. I will have to do 2 large houses with leaded windows, and apparently I will have to use scrims and cloths so how many will I need? They seem much costlier than I would have thought.
3. Where to compromise. I am on a budget of £120 to get absolutely everything except ladder and what should I absolutely get and what can I get latter.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

As above, but don't waste money on a detergent, just get a shop bought washing up liquid (I use w5 from lidl).
If you have any change then I would get a trad pole, very handy for some higher ground floor windows.

Good luck

Thanks for the replies!  :)

So, from what you tell me Squeegee Off is the one I need to get and buy all equipment from the above mentioned shops.

The thing I'm most concerned about is how I'm going to do lead windows? I will get a smaller squeegee and some cloths but not sure how many. How are lead windows done and what cloths do I need and how many?

Thanks.

Wouldnt bother with that just now, just go with a fairy liquid or similar

id say buy a 12 inch wagtail flipper from www.windowcleaningwarehouse.co.uk , this wagtail is a squeegee +washer combined and one of the best as it has a better reach than any other squeegee.  plus buy at least 2 scrimcloths and you are sorted to do the regular+the leaded windows

Hi,

You wont be able to use scrims until they have been broken in ie using as sill wipe etc. Microfiber you can though.

I would not buy scrim at first I have used mine once and only use micro fibre which you can get cheap at asda at the car shelves 6 for 3 quid. I have a 14 in and 6 in squeegee and monsoon mop and normal bucket and bucket on a belt. just use a old belt. If you buy from Window cleaning warehouse ask them for a sample of GG4 and gg3 its free. That will give you mixed 10 litres to use .You can get a small scraper I never use one. get alu-pole from B& Q they have a small 6 foot one for 5.95 they will work on a Unger and all equipment. If you have cash left keep it and use in minimum and get more as you go on.

Hi,

I saw the Asda 6 for £3.00 & thought if you sowed them together they would not be much bigger then an 80cm by 60cm micro from window cleaning warehouse. They are of the fluffy type which generally are not sold to window cleaners, that must be saying something?

unger ones feel nicer on workers hands, the little blue ones stick to the ruff skin, contico blue micros are the best I have found so far

Hi Guys,

Anyone in the Hemel area. I just stumbled accross a new window supplies co. They are called Price Cleaning Supplies. Told me they are as cheap as anyone else when I popped up to their trade counter and I managed to fill up with pure water from them for a last minute job.
