Winter preparations

Preparations for the next winter....

Yes I know weve just come out of one of the worst winters in 30 years...but now is the time look back and reflect on it and the issues it raised.

Apart from putting a little away each week...hows about looking at your set-ups both mobile and statics...

I had a few issues this past year and despite having a HF5-4040 setup I am determined to keep around 1000llitres on-site and and additional tank to transfer all the water from van tank into static area...for night-time heating.

Van to be totally re-vamped so hose reel can be drained, all pipe work to be able to 'run out'.

Pump box to be totally winterised...

Now the good weather is coming...this is the time to take a look at your set-ups and plan ahead.

So come the next winter don't get caught out...

The more I know the less I know I know ...

I was using an oil filled radiator for most of the winter.
that wasn't the issue for me, the issue was pools of ice on customers properties.
Also the road conditions, if you accidentally slide off the road your van will be off the road (Probably longer than the cold weather hangs around for).
All my customers were understanding. didn't lose one customer through the winter.

Preparations for the next winter....

I'm going to setup LOADS of inside cleaning jobs this coming winter... I'll start priming my customers in the autumn.

What about getting a "freezer" van, but not running the freezer. They're insulated, so with a little bit of heat inside they should stop all your gear freezing up!

We're getting a unit before the winter arrives; not a huge one but big enough for a few Transit sized vans and an office, toilet and small kitchen. All our vans will be kept inside at night so they'll be frost free and will start first time on the key ....... unlike the winter just gone >:(

I swore a lot this winter ;D
Come and talk dirty to us!!!

water freezing in the van tank / hose is easy to overcome, just put in a small oil filled rad

its the problem of the temps not getting much above 0 C

i had many days when the temps got above 0 C at about lunchtime, of course i couldnt work then as it was getting dark at 3.30 so the water i would have put down would have froze

it appeared many on here were struggling with the money issue, the answer is this summer when you can do a little more, just put a few quid away a week into either a seperate bank account or a sealed tin ( you can buy them for a few quid ) if we have a bad winter like this year, crack open the tin and you will have a few quid to pay the bills for a month

on a similar note, last year we decided to have a 2 quid coin tin, its the size of a baked bean tin and we decided to put only 2 quid coins in it ( our house rule was that you couldnt spend 2 quid coins ) , took us 5 months to fill, it had 304 quid in it
