Dear Customer,

As you have failed after numerous attempts to pay us a measley £10, we have refunded the amount back to you. please find the dirt which we removed back on your window. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

ps, if you would like another number of a window cleaner you would like to rip off, please look in yellow pages.

just leave a note asking for payment to be left with a neighbour as you have trouble catching them in and u have ok with the neighbour

or just dump them and when the neighbour asks just tell the truth, they owe you money

but then again its only a tenner,  dump amd forget about it and everythime you go back knock on and ask for payment

Mogsy,

I'd just leave it if I were you.  It's going to happen at some point and at least it was just a tenner.  I know of other tradesmen who've been ripped off for umpteen thousands of pounds.

I've got an ex-customer who actually tried to HIDE from me in our local village a few weeks ago because she owes me £20 (two cleans) from over a year ago.  But I know she's had her house repossessed and I suspect she suffers with some sort of mental health problem.  The next time I bump into her, I'll tell her not to worry about it.

I just let this stuff go now.

I've got this one that owes me £40. Been trying to nab her for weeks. Well yesterday I saw her going into another of my custies houses. So a few mins later I went over and asked my other custie if I could speak to this lady. She replied oh shes cleaning my house and I don't know which room shes in. Both as bad as one another I think.

This is what pees me off too.  They might mess me about, not answer the door, tell all sorts of lies.  All they have to do is say "Sorry. I'm broke. My situation has changed and I can't see me being able to pay you."  Most of the time I would just respond with something like "If things improve for you in the future, please remember that I'm owed some money" and leave it at that.  If it were a considerable sum, I would try to sort out some instalment plan but I wouldn't have high hopes of getting it.  The good thing about domestic window cleaning is that if you do get knocked, it's not a large amount usually.  The most I was ever taken for was £70 - by someone who was filthy rich.  A couple of years later I heard he lost 6 million (after he bumped me).  Live by the sword.  Die by the sword.

For me i would write off the £10 as company image is worth more than £10 plus you could get charged with vandalism
