pay structure
« on: March 31, 2010, 04:56:27 pm »
I have now built up my round to a point where i can have someone on it part time and i can get on with canvassing
Do you pay them aflat rate or a cut of the job.
Im thinking a 3rd of the value but dont want them to rush around and miss stuff etcetc

The first questions are about whether they are supplying their own van , water, and other kit as this would make a difference.  When supplying my own kit, I've charged 60% of the post VAT price (though I'm assuming no VAT is involved).  I imagine that if you are supplying everything, maybe around 40% would be thereabouts.  I'm sure you will see a variety of figures though.

I employ 8 guys their pay structure works like this:

No 1 (driver): £7.50 per hour + bonus depending on turnover, the bonus be can anything you want, I put it down on a scale i.e.

0 - £100 = £X
£100 - £200 = £Y
and so on

No 2 (skivvy): minimum wage + smaller bonus (about 1/2 the no 1s bonus).

I also have monthly incentives i.e.

Most new customers in 2 months = Nintendo wii

Least complaints in 6 months = T in the Park Tickets.

The new customer incentive works particularly well. I got nearly 200 new customers in that 2 month period.

That's a novel approach.
Just wondering what someone might do with two Wiis though  :)

I like the "least complaints" bonus becausae when on a productivity deal it can be too easy to rush a bit too much .

Do you find that 2 people in one vechicle cleans more work than 1, the reason I ask is I used to have someone with me until he emigrated.

When he left I found that I could still do the same round, but it would take about 1 hour longer than normal.

I pay my staff a minimum wage basic which is £5.60 an hour plus, bonus depending on what they turn over, i also pay them to help with door knocking and leafleting, when its all said and done they earn around 20k a year.
The best way to predict the future is to create it.
