How to clean my suite...advice plse
« on: July 16, 2005, 07:26:23 pm »
Hi Guys!

We bought a cream corner suite with removable covers about a year ago. Paid extra for the Anti-stain insurance, and have had to wash it a couple of times since!

We followed the instruction to the letter, but after the last time we washed the covers we found it got dirty really quickly.

Is there a good Stainguard we can apply ourselves or even anyone you guys can recommend to get in to do it instead.

The anti-stain insurance doesn't cover general dirt through wear and tear, but it is stsrting to look really grubby now. As it is a corner suite, it is a nightmare to de- and re-cover and it takes about 2 days to do was and dry and iron the whole thing!

We thought, as we were buying a cream suite, at the time it would be a good idea to buy removable covers, thinking if i gets grubby we can just whip the covers off and bung 'em thro the machine!! That's the easy-ish bit, it getting em back on after they are dry that's a struggle........it can take an hour!!

Any advice would be most appreciated!

Cheers!

hi i cant really help you on the stainguard thing ..i bought a leather suite after i had a cream cloth suite for the same reason.................. but maybe i am stating the obvious and you already know this    but denim ie jeans are a suites worst nightmare...denim is more durable than any suite so the first thing to wear is the suite....also the colour will continually come off your jeans onto your suite....i know its easier said than done but dont sit on it in denim...or get it re-covered in a darker material   or dye the covers you have  x

also   when its washed does it look like new again..or still a bit grubby.......if so i would get in touch with the manufacturers  and try to get them to scotchguard it for you and see if that helps
as its only a year old you will still have some power over them x

Hi Jan

Why not get a quote from a professional upholstery cleaning technician?

After all, How would you like it  if your potential customers started a D I Y cleaning schedule. :P

Hi Anne!

We don't have a prob with denim colour coming off on it......it's just grubby from where the kids have ben playing outside and then snuck a sit down when we weren't looking lol!!

Also they regain their new look once washed!

Nr_Neil!

Yea part of my question was asking if anyone could recommend a professional!

The covers are at this moment in time being whipped off and washed!

Cheers!

Jan,

Most stainguard protectors are good for repelling water based soiling on carpets or upholsterey and will make cleaning easier the next time around, but they are less effective on day to day dry soiling if you know what i mean!.
Unfortunately because you have a cream coloured suite it will still require regularish cleaning!
If you have seperate cusions on your suite, it might be worth you buying one of those stainguard products in a spraycan to try out first and then compare.
Have a look at www.drclean.co.uk and click on stainguard on the right hand side of page to find products.

good luck
