Prochem Five star and Polaris machines
« on: March 20, 2010, 09:23:41 pm »
Just been browsing the Prochem website and came across the walk behind machines mentioned above, not that I'm intending to buy one but I'm trying to enlighten myself about all aspects of CC.

How do these machines clean,I presume they use brushes to aggitate and clean then extract with vacs but what sort of solutions do you use in them.Do you use pre sprays ect with this system, and what are the drying times like?

What sort of results are achieved with these in comparison to using portys or TM's with HWE.

I realise that they are for use in large commercial areas but wouldn't bonnet cleaning also be used in these situations.

Hope someone can enlighten me.

They are just another tool of the trade. The procedures are the same as when cleaning with a "box and a wand". You don't have the lost energy though of the hoses. But they never seem to be spec'd to high end porty standard.

The agitation is of benefit but personally, I would always agitate immediately after pre-spray application to gain most benefit.

IMO, these machines perform to their best in wide open spaces and because of their bulk are best suited to being resident on-site.  Also, probably a little easier for the lesser skilled technician.

Yes, I would probably prefer to use a rotary pad system in this environment or even perhaps a TM if access and security weren't an issue.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

I do not know the prochem Five star but iif its like the rug doctor wide track one of the disatvantages is you cannot run the brush without the pump.

If you could you could agitate pre spray

I do actually run mine with no solution when I do use it on rare occasions  to agitate but its12 ears olds now so not over worried  if I damage pump which should not run dry

I have a polaris 800 and its a good machine.  The advantages are that you dont kill your back doing large spaces and one pass is nearly always enough.  it has a built in floating brush which adjusts itself according the type of carpet being cleaned and its really quick.

The key disadvantage is that its very bulky and you cant get this up stairs etc.  If you are thinking domestic dont think polaris - look at a true portable instead.

You can attach a hose to the polaris and use it with a wand  or with the hand tool.

I know some dont like walk behinds but it works for me.

I have a polaris 700, it is a very good machine. You can agittate pre spray as the motor, pump & brush are switched on indepentaly. It is a bugger carrying it up stairs, you can get the attachments for upholstery. The only problem it blows motors...3 within the 12 months warrenty. Its now a back up machine, used it the other day as house was to far away from van, god it was hard work  :o
