i want you back
« on: March 17, 2010, 08:10:34 am »
i bet most out there have heard this said, do you ever go back ,how do you play it ?
last year i dropped an indian takeaway, it was a weekly job  in and out ,including the shop fascia boards. the main guy was friendly but i hated climbing onto the food counters while they cooked, and the guy then changed it to fortnightly so i stopped going . yesterday he rang me up ,( id noticed the windows looked bad after 4 or 5 months ) ,  so i explained my greivances ,told him id return but for double the money ,he then tried to bargain but i told him to think about it, then call ended.  but if i go back,iv insulted him im sure and how will he get his revenge ?

He'll stick you in the freezer and serve you up as a nice Korma to his more discerning punters.  ;D

Don't worry we (window cleaners) have an problem with haggling. Most other businesses don't.

their culture is to haggle prices, so I would not say it was insulting more being honest.

It really does depend why a job went.  The job you mention I wouldn't bother with myself.  I've given the odd haggler too much leeway in the past and always regretted it.  Such jobs make it a lot harder to get price increases too when needed.

I had one like that once.  The poor old girl couldn't remember anything from one moment to the next.  Unknown to me she had three other window cleaners calling, then one day we all turned up at the same time to collect our money ;D ;D

I remember an old dear from a few years ago who, when I started cleaning her windows, always sang my praises and told me she how much she wanted me to continue (for ever I guess). She was a customer for several years.

She later developed Alzheimer's and one day I was up the ladders when she came out asking who I was and what I was doing. I gently explained, to which she replied that she had never had a window cleaner.

I then politely told her that I was sorry to have troubled her, and left. Very sad case.

I once had a customer who tried to pay me three times on one clean.  She paid me just after I satarted, she tried to pay me again when I went around the back and she tried again when I finished.  I also usaed to clean her daughter's place a couple of miles away so I told her what was going on in case anyone ripped her off.  My reward was that her daughter cancelled both jobs.  Some people eh?
