ive been doing house recently which has decking in back garden and even though my ladder has swivel feet fitted im a bit nervous while on it ! was racking my brain trying to think of a way to make ladder safer and ive been to my local hardware shop and bought a  coulpe of door wedges . im going to wedge them in gap in decking and see how that works

How about getting some spikes fitted that swivel up out of the way when not needed.

The ladder mates are excellent if a wee bit cumbersome, they are perfect for decking though as they work best on a flat surface.

i use  slide- on spikes ,bought off ebay (hailo is the make) and never have any worries on decking now . they dont mark the wood of the deck but do catch in the grooves which is whats needed

To be fair they don't look quite as sturdy as 'laddermate' but if they do the job they are better value.

i've had a ladder mate slip when used on wet decking before,

ended up being at the top of the ladder when it slipped and the top of the ladder came about 6 inches away from the window sill, i had to climb down the ladder slowly with the top of the ladder in the air

heart was in my mouth, never again!

i would be worried as well,spikes are the answer but only if the decking is laid the right way,if its not i get the ladder footed or miss the window

if the decking is dry and the lines in the decking are not vertical from where you climb the ladders and are horizontal i use my rojak.

IF THEY ARE WET OR VERTICAL LINES FROM WHERE I CLIMB THE LADDERS(OR BOTH!!)I USE AN EXTENSION POLE!!

decking is very dangerous also if there is green moss on it.no way in a million years would i risk it!!

there was a guy on here years ago that said put a scrim under the ladders and away you go!!MADNESS!!

Ever tried damp scrim under the stiles?  Works better that Rojak.  Try it one day with someone footing the ladder with their feet a few inches away (just in case you feel uncomfortable with it).  I did it on slippery flagstones.  Not tried on decking though.  Rojak slipped.  Scrim didn't.  Respect the angles of course.

It's obviuosly not a branded product but I use a bag of sand that are used to stop road sign falling over and are usually left lying around after road works have finished. The sand is damp and is very heavy and when pushed against the bottom the ladder it works........so far.

Steve, I used to use 2 wallpaper scrapers slotted down the gaps, then wedge ladders against but depends on which way the deckings running. i.e horizontal/vertical.
