the problem still excists regarding gear box problems, after 2004 they did make improvements but the gearbox is still a lightweight and if the van you are buying has been carrying heavy gear, then the gearbox starts to develope problems after 70000 miles.

Try the Merc sprinter or VW

I have the sportive in silver on 03 year, 80k and still running fine, hopefully I was a lucky one with the gearbox but they are a fantastic van.

I have an 04 Vivaro and had 2 gearboxs ftted,  I have heard the latter models are a different gearbox which is good to hear,    not good to read a reply on this post saying they still have major problems with the newer gearbox.

maybe Vauxhall still has to prove a point,   althouh my Vivaro is running great now ( fingers crossed )    after the fearbox going TWICE I would be very wary buying another.

The newer ones are fine. My friend works for vauxhall and he says after 04 should be ok. To be on the safe side I would go for 05 onwards just incase its an 2004 model not registered til later, if you see what I mean. Just look on ebay there are loads of pre 2004 vans on there with gearbox problems but you wont see to many 2005 onward vans with broken boxes....

I have a 57 plate sportive,nice van,good to drive. Gives me about 32/33 average mpg,town and flooring it on the m/ways  ;)
If you need to know how to reset the service light  let me know,it's the most bizzare way but it works!
