Bloody TDS meters
« on: February 17, 2010, 08:38:09 pm »
 >:(. Filling my tank up now and i have an in line TDS meter, its saying 000, i always take my connector off at the tank fill point and let the water drip into my handheld tds meter's cap and then check from there as well to back the in line up, well it says 004/005, so i stop the fill up and remove the lid and then check the water directly in the tank itself with the handheld, here it says 000 again.

The handheld i use is the one that pure freedom give you with the set up, i have a feeling it may just say what it wants when it wants, does anyone recommend a good hand held or should i trust the handheld and not the in line?

regards ste

I have been told that handheld  TDS meters are more reliable than the inline ones.

I think it might be the cold, have you checked the temperature when you read the TDS, I do, as warmer water gives a more accurate reading.

I have the one from purefreedom, it has a thermometer built into the TDS, my water coming out of the RO and DI at the mo is reading 6C

I reckon the cap to your TDS meter is a bit mucky and that is skewing the reading. It's a very small amount of water to test and it will be affected by any dust in it.

If in line says 000 and tank says 000 then you're fine.

If you want to prove this then get a clean tumbler and fill it with pure from your R/O and swill it out and then re-fill and check again. You will have a higher volume of water than in the cap of your TDS meter and will get the same as your tank (IMO). If you want to get really anal like I do then hold the glass up to one of your brush jets and measure the output from that - that's what really counts!
It's a game of three halves!
