please help - going mad
« on: February 12, 2010, 07:24:55 pm »
just in process of switching from traditional to wfp and looking at all the different options is driving me to drink

we are thinking of getting pure freedom 450gpd 6 stage RO + 10 inch DI filter and 1000L static tank.
we live in a hard water area and the water pressure is approx 50 - 55 psi

will we need a booster pump?
how long will pre filters last?
how long will RO membranes last?
how long will resin last?

there are currently 4-5 of us working 4-5 days per week on traditional we estimate this will reduce to about 3-3.5 days working from backpacks is this right?

will this system be sufficient?

if anyone can give me their opinion or advice on this i will be eternally grateful..
Thanks,

i only paid 130 for my 300gpd from ebay and eighteen months later still ok. red hat diving on ebay sells a 450 gpd with a booster pump fitted. do not know what its like but all his other stuff is ok and seems genuine enough.

We run a team of 5 with myself doing about a day a week as well.

Set up is:

RO-man 40-40 with Clarke booster pump (input tds 290-310, pressure at membrane without pump is 30-35psi this is not the same as incoming pressure - part of that goes out the waste with no resisitance so pressure at the membrane is considerably less.)

Change prefilters every 10-12 weeks.  Membrane should last 18months.

2- linked 1000lt IBC's (enough for 5 operatives using 400lt each per day - never actually use that much.)

4lt (I think) DI cylinder - big one - lasts 2-3 weeks

10" will not be big enough - you'll be changing every other day

Don't bank on reducing operating times - depends how good you are

If you do reduce your times it definitely will not be straight away. To start with you will definitely be slower with your first couple of cleans. I have been slower on some of my houses , now on third clean. Getting used to the system now and not so much effort as before. Some houses I am alot quicker, Others the same as before. All where the same if not longer to start.

May be different for different people but just wanted to warn you to start that it is not going to make you quicker instantly with good results.
