Flood recovery costing???
« on: June 29, 2005, 11:36:34 pm »
Hello,
Earlier on I did a flood recovery job for one of my fellow t/m'ers. He was on holiday, lucky chap. I went there, vacuumed 4 times,  left it for 20 mins, stamped on the carpet to get the moisture moving, then cleaned. Looked much better, though not 100%. 10m squared in total. How would you charge??? Took about an hour in total.
Thanks,

Dave

You are looking at 50 quid call out and 2.50-3.50 per metre for cleaning. Problem is what is the underlying floor material. If its concrete it is likely to be saturated and is in direct contact with the carpet. You can not deal with floods only by dealing with the wet carpet it is much more complex than that. It may be thats all the client wanted but the remaining moisture could cause future problems.

And then they call you back and the Proverbial hits the fan and costs you a fortune because you attampted to do a job that you knew nothing about!!

How many times do I have to say there is MUCH more to Flood Restoration than "SUCKING UP WATER!!"
I get better looking each day!!

John,

I was simply doing what I had been asked to do. I've never done a flood job before. I don't know. I followed my instructions from the other chap who has done it many times before. Maybe he knew what the score was as he had been there a year previously???

The floor is wood...

...and the chap I did it for in his absence, is checking it on Monday.

When he checks it on Monday Dave, tell him to lift the carpet and underlay,  check the water content of floor boards, treat with Antimicrobial then install Blowers and de-humid's and go back in a weeks time to check again.

With what you say Dave it sounds like the Blind leading the Blind.
I get better looking each day!!

and your reccomendations for max wme readings would be?also what about checking subfloor joists?has moisture started to migrate up plaster/stud?also is subfloor area suitably vented?why not take subfloor ambient readings and compare them with external/internal readings?may be that a change of subfloor ambient is required. ;D ;D
