Anyone heard of
« on: February 04, 2010, 05:32:32 pm »
Has anyone heard of a company called the Carpet Cleaning People based in Reading, not sure whether they are an agent.

I have quoted against them 4 times now and they are trying various different tactics to get the work. If the client does not like their quote they then say I am only acting on their behalf but I can do the Job direct for half the price. Seems very strange to me. Basic clean price of 73pence a sq ft using the Alltec priceing system on a laptop.

What's the Altec pricing system?

A guy called James Holt owns this company, don't know him personally.

I wonder if he knows what his technicians are up to ?

No never heard of them but I have heard of Abra........ who keep leafletting my house with their Altec scare mongering newsletter.

As for 73p/sqft  I'd happily undercut that by £4/sq yd

Could not beleive it, never came up against Mr Holt but a guy called Boris. 73 pence a sq ft he tried to get from a couple in a 3 Bed terrace in Forest Park. Talk about not knowing your client base. You are right never lost a Job to them at those prices. He is driving up the prices on google though.

So I presume the magic circle of Holt, Abracadabra and Carpet Cleaning People are all one and the same. I have heard some horror stories of cleaning techniques, results and drying times from another carpet cleaner though.
I don't know if it works but a leaflet (sorry newsletter) that takes 20 minutes to read is surely too long by about 18 minutes.
What gets me is that Reading is a stand alone city on it's own so why do you need to target towns 15 miles away?

Just noticed via google that Clean My Home is another name used

I Think his whole I can do it cheaper for cash offer is just a ploy. Once he knows he is never going to get his price, he makes out like he is doing them a favour by saying all this nonsense, illegal nonsense at that!

I believe David Jenkins (ex pro-clean) instigated "The Carpet Cleaning People" in 2005, using "associates" in different regions and taking a cut for the marketing. Not a franchise though.

David is a bit of a marketing guro and has spoken at Carpex seminars.
