I use a halfords semi synthetic oil think its 5/ 30 and it seems stay cleaner longer than the briggs & stratton oil

Yes mate is SAE 30. Its about £15 for 5 litres from Machine Mart.

Paul, i know a few guys that have used 5/30 oil.  Thats ok to use but the place that is near me deals 90% with B&S engines.  They used to supply genuine B&S oil but they then got some other stuff in that was cheaper for their customers but still SAE 30.
