L5 heater solutions

right the L5 heater

my take on this heater and the arguments against it

the biggest argument seems to be the issue of having it run whilst you are not near the van, well thats easy to get over :)

get yourself a 100 L tank, insulate it, run your L5 into that whilst you unreel your hose / get poles out etc etc

that water will stay hot in a insulated tank for a while, long enough to work with

then fill top up when you are close to your van whilst reeling in / putting away poles etc etc

Hi

to be honest, i'm not that much of a strong supporter of the L5, i dont own 1, though i have it bookmarked and have often allmost purchased one, i am from the " keep it simple school of life, if its not broken, dont fix it ", cold water works and thats enough for me

the costs would be under 200 quid which isnt alot of money

it looks very easy to setup, you need a gas bottle and regulator, and some pipe and fittings

my thoughts would be to run as i have posted above, run it into a insulated holding tank, you can keep a eye on everything whilst you fill that holding tank

Matt you are a very smart and  unique man. You use your head. Some on this forum think of every reason why it will not work, accept why it will. This attitude is stopping Britain been great. THIS IN A NUT SHELL IS WHAT OUR FORE FATHERS HAD THAT WE LACK.

I thought I had read all of the threads on the L5, but had never come across someone saying they were worried about it running while they are away from the van.  Do you mean, in case it blows up/sets fire to your van or something?

I just ordered an L5 last night.

that seemed to be the main concern last year

if you are away from the van and its not turned on, you have no safety issues

Lost my camera so you will have to use your immagination.

Tall sack truck, gas bottle on the back sitting on the axle. Container to take the modular poles up one side.
Front has a Hudson backpack held on with bungee, on top of which hangs  my L5 snuggly between the frame of the sack truck. A Hozebox hose reel takes the Algarde hose. It all just hangs off the trolley.

The bpac powers the L5 by way of a T with a tap, the provided shower head hose just dumps into the Hudson until the water is 35 degrees  and luke warm tepid at the brush end. Turn the T tap to change back to wfp power.

For " hot" water you could do the same with a camping stove and just mix boiling with the same ratio of cold.

Away from van meaning when you tucked up in bed? Or while you're cleaning windows?

If you leave the gas turned on while driving or overnight, then you are not being safety conscious

i didnt know you used the L5 Jeff

funny enough i have drawn the plans for the L5 on a trolley system, currently looking at ways to make it all look nice ( current plan is a fibreglass shell )
