traffic owners help please
« on: December 12, 2009, 11:03:29 am »
Just picked up a 04 trafic last week and im having a few probs. when i put it into reverse it pops back out unless i hold the gearstick, i have found this also happens in 3rd too. Is the gearbox on its way out? A friend thinks it might be the synchro mesh, watever that is? Any advice please

Gearboxes are bad news in Trafics, Vivaros and Primastars prior to the 55 plate.  Sounds like a new one may be needed.

Most definetly needs a new gear box,my mate had one and the gear box went after 10,000 miles, they are quite common on those three vans, when I got my Transit I did fancy an ex Sky Vivaro and even the dealer told me to stay well clear so I got a Transit from him instead ;D

I haven't got time at the moment but there is something about these gearboxes that I will start a new thread on.  I'm out soon and tomorrow but early next week I will post something up here.  A customer of mine had a report done on his and it made interesting reading.  He may end up taking them to court.  Also, I wonder if this is a case for Watchdog.  You may think so when you read what I post early next week.

i took it to a highly recommended gearbox specialist today. he says the bearings are on there way out and as long as they are replaced sooner than later it should be fine. Another nice £400 bill on top of christmas though!

The 6 speed, 55 plate and onwards  boxes are ok, anything other you may have big problems
