Explaining wick back

Hi all,

In the past when explaining wick back to custys i'm not sure they believe me 100%, or sometimes they are just not interested. I am thinking about leaving a fact sheet, just wondered how you all explain it to custys, or how you would word a fact sheet.

Cheers, but a bit technical for custys. I'm not sure I want to give them a fact sheet that starts saying the main cause of wick back is Technician error!

It could be because they are not interested in the technicalities, just the result.

What situations are you explaining wick back and more importantly when?

Are you half expecting problems, what are you doing to prevent it?

On the writing it out. This will carry more weight, but where do you go from there?

Half fill a washing up bowl with water.

Hang a flannel over the side so that an inch or two is submerged.

The water will wick up the flannel.

If there was soil or contaminants in the water, that would carry up the flannel too.

good to see you replying on a regular basis again Ken, and an excellent way of explaining I might add.

Can you explain to some on here your method determing the way the pile lays? I remember it well from a few years ago on a stainremoval course we were on , and thought at the time how effective it was (pencil and Paper)

Place a sheet of paper on the carpet.

Lay a pencil on the paper.

With the palm of your hand, roll the pencil backwards and forwards.

The paper will move in the direction of the pile.

It's worth noting that if you try this in, for example, a doorway where pile reversal has occured, the paper will move in the new direction, not the the direction from manufacture.
