I live in Kent and got a call from someone in Essex ,I clean his cousins carpets .I told him that it would have to be worth it and he said he would get me some more work to make up for it . I did some work for another one of the cousins in north london and came away £300 richer.so how far would you go ?

Seriously from Stockport I've had work in Crewe, Stafford and Preston all of which are a good hour plus away. I also quite often do work in Liverpool, but that's only 40 minutes away. It's all recommendations but I guess for many of you that length of time driving is nothing, the mileage might be something else. I always get paid more for the travelling time.

Distance is irrelative I would guess. As long as you are paid for the travel to cover your time and fuel I would say it is no different to doing a job around the corner.

On that basis I would say where ever the job is, again as long as time and fuel are covered by the customer for the travel.

Its about the opportunity Cost - if u have to travel say a return journey of 2 hrs - could u be earning in that time?so yes but only if that earning power is in the job.

We will only travel abt 40mins for that reason - unless its a bigger commercial job - then maybe an hour - but thats the max!

I and my employees will travel any where. Providing it is worth it.

We have even booked in hotels and stayed over on a few jobs. The client pays the bill.

So as Fearnley say No work = No money and we cant have that can we.

I think if it was a good commercial job, would consder travelling anywhere in the country, as long as you can make it worth going for thats all that matters. I think the times when local jobs was done by local companies etc has now gone and many companies in various industries are now prepared to go further and further just to get the work.

I would maybe go 25 miles or there abouts myself and if its a commercial a bit further..

Trouble is the traffic and that equals time..
