Fan and spray are the same but I prefer fan jets than pencil ones any day

fan sprays are messy, pencil's jets are not, I guess it depends on the quality you like to give to your clients 

When I tried fans they spray all over the place where as pencils you can direct as you please.

There are so far 4 clever people on the poll lol

Only ever used fan jets i dont think it makes much difference if you rinse with the brush on the glass.
