Hi all,
I cleaned a carpet on Saturday for a lady whoes baby had spewed milky vomit into the carpet. When I left on Saturday after using a few solutions and my TM, she was delighted. BUT, the sick smell has returned and I am going back tomorrow afternoon to see what else I can do to rid her of this odour.
Obviously there are some threads to do with sick, but can anyone advise me of what they would do in this situation?

Hi benny,

This is one of the few occaisions when I would use an enzyme product , spray on leave for 15 mins and rinse very well.

The protein in the milk is bonding to the fibres and the protease enzymes will break these bonds.

You need to apply Clensan from Prochem.

This kills all the bacteria, just spray on, brush in and leave it to work.

This is formula milk sick, breast milk has hardly any odour.
Use solutions that would suit ordinary cows milk that has gone sour.

always pre qualify the owner ,that if the source of the odour has penetrated down to the underlay, the odour may return.This is were a water claw comes in handy,used mine many times with excellent feed back.

Hi all,
Thanks for the responses.
I used all the above, Water Claw,Enzyme spray and Clean san, but I guess not enough of it!!
I will have another go tomorrow and see what hapopens ;-)

Try Prochem Odour Neutraliser in your solution tank, then leave a tub of odour neutraliser gel with the customer after you've finished. This should do the trick.

I had a Chinese rug to clean where a baby had been sick down one edge.

Tried Clensan and Chemspec Oudour Kill with no improvement.

Searched Google which came up with bicarbonate of soda.

Raided the kitchen and diluted the above with water, sprayed onto the area and let dwell for 10 mins, extracted and dried and hay presto...............
no smell

Well worth a try!

Hi Guys,

The point about the bactericides is that they will kill the bacteria present BUT because they are present all around , they will return.

If however you break the protein bonds and extract then their is nothing for the bacteria to live on.
