I feel if your customer agrees to a 4 week visit then that’s what it is. If they do not want that then we make a new understanding. Then you need to neg a new price. If they mess with that then stuff them and move on , BUT tell them you are going to move on they will 9/10 time change there attitude and those who don’t drop a.s.a.p. They will respect you for it. Use you anger to have courage to say to them what your terms are. Any big or small business must have policies and procedures. Or rules to abide by, all parties must comply.

I agree with wizard. Spell it out crystal clear that you wont be messed about, it's not doing your business any good dealing with this type of customer. We get paid full invoice total if we don't receive cancellations 24hrs prior. Of course no one wants to pay out for nothing, but it trains customers not to mess you about!!

I may just use this method from now on :) sounds like a goer, they think they are saving by going 4 weekly and in the end we win :)

I always work on a calender month, and most of the custies are happy with that.
Some months if the weather has been good I have a few spare days to myself, or if it's been bad then I have a few days to play with.

I used to work four weekly, but I found it was too often.

I also try and work a four day week, then I always have that spare day (not that it usually works that way, something always comes in :().

And as for people saying not this time, well that's there perogative (spelling?) to do so.
Customers can be the biggest pain in the backside sometimes, but ultimately we need to keep them happy in order for our business' to function.
I always try to put a few back up jobs on the list for the day.
And if the customer keeps putting me off I ask if they would like to go to two monthly as it's costing me money to come out to them and then get turned away!

Have you tried texting them the day before? Then at least you'd know the day before when you're planing your next days work.

Not on my round it isn't! They agree to a frequency and that is what they get.
It's a game of three halves!

Now there speaks a man after my own heart.  "Not todayers" are the biggest pain going.  I've no problem with someone cancelling for a while if say they're building an extension or having new windows in a couple of months time - so long as they give some prior warning.  But "not today" can cost money - especially if it happens late in the day and it's not practical to schedule another job elsewhere.  It's even worse if you've already set up the reel etc.   I am stricter on this with standalone jobs than I am with work in a block but even then, I have been known to just leave one out of the middle.

I have always found that when you go canvassing a significant percentage of the customers who say yes to having their windows cleaned end up being time wasters and get dropped.

I think its a symptom of canvassing, you turn up and put an idea in their heads which wasn't there before. Lets face it if they really wanted a window cleaner they would already have one for the most part. Most of them I suspect have had lots of window cleaners and been dropped by all of them.

I call them air heads, with a short attention span. Once they realise they have to pay you EVERY time you turn up the novelty wears off very quickly.

Instead of saying would you like your windows cleaned you should ask them if they fancied a bonk on the settee before the old man gets in. Probably say yes to that as well, I get the impression most of them will say yes to anything.

Vince - ,

Many areas around here have not seen a w/c in years, thats not to say there are no w/c's but those that operate have no advertising, no van, and seem content to have thier customers and not expand

sometimes i hit a road and get virtually every house and yes the odd one here and there plays up but i think it's just more that type of person than an idea being put into thier heads

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

Round here there are at least two or three window cleaners already serving every road and most these days have sign written vans. Yet its still possible to pick up work. Where we live we get knocked or leafletted several times a year for window cleaning and carpet cleaning. Never gardeners though, they are like gold dust. Everybody asks me do I know any gardeners.

I actually got a phone call the other week there by a customer asking could i wash down his roof, i replied 'im sorry but im a window cleaner, i dont do roofs'  and he said 'oh ok' and off he went :) Some people are just thick it gets up my goat, but i find with door knocking the body language says it all even if their mouths say differently :)
