Vauxhall Astra Van
« on: November 04, 2009, 04:03:27 pm »
hi, Do any of you work from a vauxhall astra van? not the brand new shape, the one before, say 04 plate. is there enough room for all your gear and does it hold the weight well??
i carry a Pure Freedom trolley with 8 25l water drums, 2-3 poles, and trad gear.
i also carry 1 double ladder, and a single A frame.
will the astra van hold this well and would it be easy enough to get things in/out etc,
replies appreciated, thanks.

I have the Astra estate car 02 plate, its the same as the van only better as I can use the back seats for water. Its great for ladders as its low down enough but I wouldnt get it as a van. There is no side loading door and when you have ladders on top the back lifts up onto it and you have to bend down. This is ok as a car as you have the back doors but as a van you would have to crwl in and pull things out. If its just trade then it would be ok but for a pole system I wouldnt bother. Also it would not be any good with a van mount.

I had one of these a couple of years ago. it was the newer one on an 07 reg.

Awful with a 400 litre tank in them, terrible handling but they look good!!

i got one and i am wfp,  everything fits in i just had to buy a new tank to fit between wheel archs as i have to use the back seats,  with it being small stops me from filling it full of crap like i did with my transit, get arounds back of houses better, i put ladders on roof,  poles between passanger seat they will reach the full length of van

i dont think you should have any problems with 200 lit of water or what u r carrying

Yes the weight is fine in the estate you woudnt even notice, I have had up to 12, 25 ltr containers and I have the 17 tds. Although it takes the weight its not ideal, things should be strapped down in the back as its dangerous when you have to brake fast and thats when your driving slow. I can get three in the footwells and the others I have on the back seat. If I was on the lookout I would go for a van that had rear doors that opned outwards and one thats low enough to get to the ladders on and off with not to much trouble

i use to use one i found it good, i used a 250ltr flat tank 100m hose reel plus poles and trad gear, as for ladders on roof is a bit of a pain for back door, but is a easy fix change your ladder to a smaller triple and then the tail gate will open fully,
