Extra £1.00 per house
« on: November 03, 2009, 02:21:34 pm »
I am converting to WFP soon, I do have a letter ready for my domestic customers to explain to them how it works.

But i wondered whether i should try offering the option if they want it , 1st clean extra £5.00 to include all the frames aswell and price increase £1.00 each clean to continue cleaning the frames.

I have used wfp before so i know you do clean frames every time but is it worth trying to make the extra income, what do think, is it worth trying one or the other,  or even both, of the options.

Has anyone tried this or anything similar
Thanks
Darren

Maybe extra £1 for cleaning frames every time but would not charge extra £5 on first clean.

On first clean windows are often left with spots or runs from cleaning the tops of frames so they often don't come up really well until 2nd or 3rd clean.

Don't do anything on first clean to put customer off.

The work should be quicker so you should be able to make more with more work. just remember your customers didn't ask you to change how you clean.
That said, If you don't ask, you don't get ;)

when i changed over it was a bit of a tense time and a few custy made a lot of noise about how they prefered trad.

I think if i had made any price increses big or small this would have been like rubbing salt in the wound, for some custy's.

Also were going through the worst recession in living history :(

I would save any price increases to 2010 spring time, and keep increses fair; no more than a pound, that's my opinion.

good luck ;)

Thinking about it, I may be better fitting system sfter Christmas, then sending out letters and use it as price increase aswell as added frame clean, if they want it, as I have not put up prices since April 2008

ive been building up my diy set up slowly and ive been putting every house up by a pound/some by £2 well before i change over - think some customers would find it a easy way of cancelling and not giving wfp a chance if you put the prices up during the switch over from trad.

there's your answer. wait till April and put your prices up. Don't mention the fact you have gone to WFP. you have frozen your prices for two years that is reason enough for a slight increase.

When |I changed over all my customers the price went up from min £1, they way I sold it to 90% of them is I would be cleaning all the frames extra this price rise would have happened regardless if I started wfp, so they got a bonus... I lost a couple of people, the increase far outweighed the loss

I never gave them a letter, the ones I saw I spoke to whilst cleaning the windows and cleaned up the frames trad before hand.

I think giving a letter is asking them to get out there and check for faults that you will make. to much info to people can backfire.

My honest advice would not be to give a letter, this worked for me. It may be different for you, but I can only go on what I do and have done in the past.

Thanks Ian, I have been told not to give a letter before. You could be right they may just try to find fault,

I have known most my customers for a long time and as soon as you knock most want to pay thinking you have already been and cleaned the windows, so there must be some trust from them.

Do you think I should do it this way,-when I put my prices up next year of approx £1.00,  I will state that frames will be cleaned aswell from now on

Thats what I would do.

Something like this: Hi Mrs P next year the price needs to go up a little before you gulp please dont worry I will now also be cleaning your frames included in with the price so really for £12 a year you get your frames cleaned every time we clean the glass.

that works out at £1 to do twice the amount of work, but the new system we wioll be using helps us do them a little quicker, so we both benifit.

See you in 4 weeks have a great day  ;D

Nice one Ian, thankyou very much, that seems to be worded well and not to much detail for customers to pick fault with equipment and cleaning process but leaving room to answer the questions, they may have.

Obviously this is a big step for me to convert to wfp and I want to get it right. Been cleaning windows for long time, make a good living, happy with what i do and I am a believer of, if it ain't broke don't fix it.  So it is a big step, but I know its the way forward for the future.
Thanks for help
