iv recently bought a second hand honda pressure washer its the one tech clean sell weve been having problems evthing seems to be workin but the release valve that returns water to the resevoir when the lance isnt engaged is pouring water out when it shouldnt be and there is not much pressure gettin to the lance or the rotary cleaner we have put it in to a plant repair place but was wondering if any one could shed some light on the problem

Buy a new unloader valve - £30 - £40 from tech clean, exhange engineering or dual pumps, easy to fit and will solve the problem as described. Ever thought to use , or . ?

BDCS is spot on... I replce the unloader valve at least once a year whether it needs it or not as the loss in pressure can be gradual.  Yours sounds totally gone.

is that the one with the black handle that u turn round to alter the psi pressure we have already replaced that and it seems to be doing exactly the same thing. we think it could be a blockage somewhere everything seems to be working fine except this.

Couple of things to try, Set the machine up but a without the lance on, start it up, watch to see if the water flow is contantout of the HP hose, if it looks like it is splutering you might have a bit of air in the pump, let it run for a couple of minutes to see if it clears. If it does put the lance back on and see if that is any better. It sounds like the unloader valve is leaking when it goes into by-pass, you do mean that the valve is leaking and not the by pass hose? You do have the unloader valve turned all the way up to max pressure?

basically roger we have the connector for the pressure hose that connect to the lance, we have the connector for the suction hose and we have the connector for the bypass hose that refills in to the barrel/resevoir when the lance/rotary cleaner isnt in use but even when the lance or rotary cleaner is in use it is still pouring out the bypass hose when it shouldnt and this is causing lack of pressure for the lance/rotary cleaner to work!! it does seem like there is an air block perhaps possibly after the primer switch to the uploader valve because everything seems to be working fine.

how do you release these air blocks???

If the water is still pouring out even with the trigger engaged on the lance, then it sounds to me like the unloader valve is knackered, but if you say you have replaced this, check that you don't have the pressure set too high (unscrew the unloader valve all the way and see if it stops with the trigger pulled).

If this oesn't work, then my advice would be to take it to someone who can take a look at it properly.

 Just need to check you have connected the ports correctly, the unloader is not faulty but with no tool connected the should be no real pressure developed and hence no flow from by-pass, you also need to check the oriface is matched to the pressure /flow of the machine. To release the air you should have a valve before the u/l v/v and run the machine at tickover and watch the water flow down the suction hose to the pump and when you have good flow from the valve, increase the revs and shut the valve.
