Don't give up mate. I ditched my window cleaning round last summer mate and regretted it ever since. I've been pushing to get it started ever since and its took me ten months to get back to having work on a daily basis. Plus everything seems much harder going through the same motion for a second time and canvassing seems worse the second time round. Do it as a hobby in a bit of your spare time. Just don't give up

Maybe wait till after Christmas has been paid for then try again.  Don't be afraid of leaving your comfy regular wage, running your own full time business boosts your confidence, pride, income (if your not on a fantastic wage now), and flexibility during working hours.  Maybe that flexibility might mean in future you'll be able to take time out to drop off/pick up from nursery or any of the other many things that take up time during the day with a child.

I'd think very carefully before selling the equipment off.  You will get work even with all those other cleaners around if you canvass without giving up.  As said, they won't all be great at the job, maybe you will ?

You'll probably hear plenty of people trying to knock you down too -  " a window cleaner, really, I wouldn't do that for a living "  OR " most people already have a window cleaner "  OR " you'd be mad to give up your job "
These are usually work colleagues or relatives who don't have the ambition that you clearly have.

That sounds familiar, had a few folk say the same to me. As for giving up a full time job, that is the trickey part, just when do you do it ? Do you just go for it and canves and clean the next day or do you build it up on your days off untill you have a full day every week then go for it ?

If you still have the drive, then keep the back pack and do it slowly.

Thanks very much again guys for the supportive words.

I think I'll hold on to the backpack and pole, just for now at least, until i've decided for sure. Sorry for messing the guys about that were interested in buying it, if I do decide to sell I will let you know first.

I think really the thing that had put me off most was seeing so many people w/c that I'd never seen before. My area isn't that big (Lancaster/Morecambe) and to have counted at least 20+ w/c I just started thinking there's too many people doing it. But having read your advice I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks again, a great bunch of guys!!!

make christmas your motivation to get more work, youll make more money out of the backpack then you will selling it, youll get £255 by selling them but even if you get 5 custys cleaned a week at say £10 each £50 a week youll earn about £600 from now till christmas just for say 2 hours a week work, you wouldnt need to do much canvassing for that amount of work, plus offer fascia and soffit cleans youll have plenty in the kitty mate.

It's a 'no-brainer' when put like that, isn't it?

Or do you feel that you've got the wrong equipment?

You might prefer a van 'set-up' with a shorter, lighter pole (17 foot) - but you'd have to give 3 storey properties 'a miss'
