Customers telling Porky Pies....
« on: September 15, 2009, 11:36:58 am »

Quick bit of background:

Small estate where I do a dozen or so houses. 3 bed semis that I knock out in 20ish minutes and charge £10.

Gets a call last week from No.9 who wants me to add her to the round but says: "I only get them cleaned once a year".  I think that's a bit odd as I've done this estate for 4 years and never seen another window cleaner, but don't think any more about it.

I have no problem with annual cleans as I reason it's their windows to have cleaned as often or little as they want....as long as I know up front and therefore can price accordingly.

Tell her it's £30....fine she says.

Cleaned last year my arse >:(...these windows haven't seen a clean since Queen Victoria was on the throne.

2 hours...2 bloody hours it took to do both sides...oh and the husband is a smoker :'(

OK she did give me £40 and promised to have them cleaned quarterly...

...but why the Pork Pies? Does she imagine all window cleaners are thick ::)

Worst I had was a customer who takes a few now and then calling me up pretending to be her sister in law, saying she was in hospital and could I rearrange. I gave her three bookings that she cancelled short notice over the phone. So I knew her voice well as had spoke to her so much and new it was her, so at the end I said no problem mrs (surname) and she said thanks  ;D

I had a good one today, I was cleaning a bathroom showroom and I spotted a guy walking over to me from a plumbers merchant I lost about 8 months ago because she didn't "Like all that water everywhere" (bit rich coming from a plumber :))

Anyway, he says the boss has asked me to see if you will do our windows again, so I said I would call over when I had finished the job I was on.

So, as I get over there, the woman comes out and says "Oh, I see you use a brush now!"

I looked a bit puzzled and said "its always had a brush."

"No" she says "before you just used a hose and sprayed the window"

"No I didn't" says I.

"Yes you did" says she.

"No, I really didn't" I said.

"Yes, honest, you did" she said.

at this point I knew we could be there for some time, so I interjected with "Look, do you want me to clean them or not."

She did. I got a about an extra 15% on the bill. Happy Days.

should of charged her more and say you have to pay for brushes now ...
