Urgent help needed with van hire / lease
« on: September 01, 2009, 11:30:18 am »
Hi guys,

As i posted the other day some of you may know that my vw sharan has blown the head gasket. Spoke to a garage today and its a £1k repair job. I dont have that kind of money to get it fixed.

My only option is lease hire / hire purchase or something like that.

I need a motor with at least 4 - 5 seats as the VW was the family car aswell as my work motor.

Was thinking of something along the lines of a crew cab as im WFP window cleaner and need the space for 25L containers

Anyone know about leasing / hiring or any ways i can get a van ? i would be so gratefull if you could share your knowledge.

Oh and my credit rating is shot from my stupid younger years

Thanks

JP

How old is your Sharan and what is it's value? Is it worth repairing - ask Andy a for advice; he's a top geezer on vehicles! - if it is worth repairing then any relatives you could borrow from and pay back over six months or a year?

If you can't get finance in any way shape or form then how about a big saloon car and trailer - big saloons have fallen out of bed pricewise!
It's a game of three halves!

Any lease is going to be subject to credit history. if yours is rocky then the finance costs may rocket  - When I have needed a extra van for a few months I have previously rented on long term hire from one of the national or local hire companies - The rates drop way below their quoted and advertised daily rates. I have just sent an email round them all and invited them to offer me a price per week / per month based upon a 3/6 month hire period. It all depends who has stock available and needs the business. the vehicles are supplied taxed and servicing is included so its just fuel insure and go. I had a crewcab Transit type van for about £60 per week but have never looked at double cab pickups
Nothing beats hard work!!!!

you thought of buying a cheap old astravan? my first astravan i owned and started my window cleaning business with had rear seats, they folded flat so had loads of room in the back so it would be ideal for a load of 25l containers,

i only paid a couple of hundred quid for it and it lasted a year before i weighed it in,

I personally wouldnt bother weighing yourself down with expensive finance.

yep ,i second that -  just buy a big car (best to get a JAP  if u can )  and   try n find one that belonged to an old guy  ,they usually keep em  serviced . in the long run u may well be quids in as those sharans drink fuel like no tomoro dont they.

shame about ze sharan, i was a mechanic  before the windows and i know theyre a pig to work on once they muck up -  you should get £100 though for scrap ,prices are still high for scrap
