Parquet Floor Cleaning
« on: August 17, 2009, 11:03:11 am »
Hi

Do any of you guys clean parquet floors in residential properties on a weekly/fortnightly basis?

I have just quoted for a residential forthnightly clean on a 3 bedroom 2 reception and all of the ground floor is parquest and I was just wodering what method you guys would suggest to use?

The kitchen has old wooden cuboards and there appears to be a lot of grease above the cooker and surrounding areas any suggestions for this also?

Any advise would be great.

They're extremely expensive, so approach with caution. Use no more than a light mist of water, quickly removed with a microfibre mop. Don't let any water stand and be careful only to use the right products (I beleive there are specialist cleaning solution).
Website is a work in progress, but check it out. www.silverclean.co.uk

First things first,

Has the floor been sealed?

If the answer is yes, is the seal in good condition?

Normal cleaning can be carried out using a neutral detergent, as silverclean rightly stated, water should be used very sparingly!

As this floor is in a house, I would recommend that spot cleaning a small area with a clean cloth and a solvent based detergent wax remover be carried out twice a year, this will allow you to see how dirty the floor becomes over time, this should be obvious. Depending on actual traffic, the above frequency could be changed.

Seals to use are solvent based seals, or you can get water based seals for wood.

Waxes, if the floor has been correctly sealed, you can use a water emulsion or solvent based wax. If unsealed you must use a solvent based wax.

Do not under any circumstances try to sand this floor, as silverclean has said these are extremely expensive floors!

If you are in any doubt, get a specialist in, or ask your chem supplier to visit the property with you and advise on correct maintenance.

Regards,

Rob
