Hi guys, i was wondering if you have any tips on getting dried blood out of carpets? I have tried 1001 foam cleaner, but it has not made any difference. Im no carpet cleaner, so i don't have any of your professional type equipment, well apart from a new sebo.

This is what Prochem suggest!

Take safety precautions to avoid infection or contamination. Apply Stain Pro and blot. Apply Rust Remover, wait 2-5 minutes and blot. Allow to react 5 to 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water and blot until dry. It may be necessary to apply a solution of 30ml of Oxibrite per litre of water (subject to colour test).`

As you probably won't have any stainpro, rust remover, etc I would suggest you get someone on here local to you to come and sort it out for you.

Otherwise I have had success with salty water in the past but I have the equipment to rinse & extract after, so if you try this then obviously its at your own risk.

No they may not have the products but she can obtain a Prochem spot remover package for around £20.00 which will have that in it. She would have to go to a supplier or go online. She can still get the product!

Brilliant, thanks for the replies. I had thought about getting somebody out, but if i can do it before my mum comes out of hospital, that would be great.

Dont just use any old product and always test the carpet.

Does it have colours in it? Patterns?
if so you need to test for colour fastness, thats to see if the colour runs! Spray on clothe and press down hold for 5 minutes , see if colours transfer to clothe. Do this in a non conspicuous place.

stain pro won't get the 1001 out :  Or much else in my experience, and I've also had probs with that product causing colour loss on many different carpets.

Rather than just a blood stained carpet, you're risking ending up with a carpet still stained with blood and full cleaning product residue. Call a local carpet cleaner, you're likely to be wasting 16 quid and making it worse having a go yourself.

Jim has hit the nail on the head, so you need a machine to rinse out the 1001 before you can tackle the stain, stain pro works well for me with a good dwell time and then a bloody good rinse, even if the stain has gone I always apply another helping and rinse as blood often comes back.

As Jim says don't waste your time and money. You need an extraction machine if you want to remove all the blood. Even a professional may have to have 2 attempts due to wick back after the first clean. This because once water is introduced to blood you have about 5 times the amount of staining agent. Most constituants of blood dissolve readily in water however Fibrin which is a protein is non soluble in water and it is this that often makes blood stains difficult to remove totally, especially dried in ones.

Am I the only one who misses Prochem's "Stain Absorbing Powder"?

It was absolutely brilliant on blood. Once you'd rinsed out the stain you put the powder on the top. Then as the stain dried any wick-back dried into the powder, not the fibre tips, and then client would vacuum up the next day. Job sorted.

Got blood spots out yesterday

What did I use

Diluted Biological Wahing liquid (Persil)

As stated, it contains enzymes which actually breaks down the cell wall of blood and renders it inert.

Spray onto the spots, let dwell for a few mins, blot out with terry towel or plain white kitchen towel

Job done, cheap as chips

Enzall from chemspec,agitate gently,extract with fibre and fabric rinse from prochem,a bit of defoamer in tank.the custys usually rub half the carpet away when using 1001
