Cleaning in London
« on: July 12, 2009, 10:03:09 am »
I own a smallish cleaning company on the south coast, one of my customers is a business partner to a very well connected person in the UAE.  We have now been asked to do some cleaning on his property in London which I understand to be worth more than £30 million.

I have not been to see the property yet so am not able to answer any questions about it, but at the moment I have no idea of how to charge for this type of work.

I hope to get a 3 year contract to do the cleaning and want to get the price right.  It is likely we would also need help from a local company as well so would need to factor in their cost.

Any one have experience of doing jobs like this.

i was a courier in london for 9 years the first thing that springs to mind with any london job is parking last time i was working up there it was £50 a parking ticket which goes uptp £100 if not paid within 14 days my record was 6 in one morning meters are expensive and you cant feed them you will get a ticket if you do and car parks will be expensive and may be along way away from the job so you will have to keep that in mind too

Thats why the couriers in London use Polish vans. Or they pay £400 to a bent doctor and get a disabled badge.  Parking is a nightmare.

Hi David,

Just because the house is around 30 million does not mean he will want to pay a high price for the maintenance / cleaning of it.

People with money and I am talking about lots of it are generally very distinctive and scrutinising. Not giving away money unless it benifits them in some way.

You will also need to inspect the house first and clarify in detail that exact works to be carried out.

As for parking I doubt that would be an issue with a house worth that amount. I would assume it is an estate not a a flat with a need for a parking permit.

As for working with other contractors should not be an issue. But you need to get them to go with you and see what needs dong to get them to privce for you and they invoice you, You then invoice your client.

When you say another firm what type of works are you doing?

Cleaning
Grass cutting
Landscape
Window cleaning
Maintenance - ie electrics, Painting.

Hi Dave,

I live in North London and know window cleaners who cover all London, so if you ever want a hand please get in touch and I will be able to hopefully point you in the right direction for good reliable help from people with a reach and wash system.

Hope it all works out well,

Nigel

Good point from Prestine Clean, I had a similar one in Kensington and was ill advised, went in too high and lost it. Have a look at the agents and what they are offering, a lot of wealthy people uses agents to get all sort of work done. Don't take the job unless you are making reasonable profit it's not worth the hassle of london otherwise. Don't follow the cut throat brigrade and go in too cheap, make sure your insurance is sufficient in case of accidents.

But remember not all wealthy peeps like to pay, from experiece and not been over prejudice I find the none British the most likely cheap skates. But maybe it's just my run of fortune.
