sparks from grinder
« on: October 16, 2009, 10:42:08 pm »
I was cleaning a house today after they got a new kitchen extension fitted,
the builders had been fitting new patio slabs which they cut using a grinder hence burn marks on the window, they where like small black dots all over the glass, does anyone know how to get these marks of or are they beyond repair.
I started out with nothing......I still have most of it.

Cant get rid of these marks except replace the glass, you will see these change colour to orange as they rust. Basically as they were grinding bits of red hot metal flew off the metal and embedded itself into the glass by melting the glass thus removal is impossible.
Tell them to claim off the builders for new glass.

Thats what i thought matt, but while we where there today she was trying to rub some compound into the glass and also she asked me for my scraper and after about twenty minutes she said , thats starting to come off , i will just have to keep doing it and take one layer of at a time, I just said you will still be there next month when i come back. ::)

Hi windymiller, I said to her get the builder back, but she would rather try another way, this extension has taken from march till now to do and the glass windows where fitted before the metal sills where. to remove the glass it is a major job and that is what she dos'nt want .

The only other way is to get some expert glass polishers in, but i doubt they could remove them. She is looking at getting the glass replaced as the red hot metal fillings have melted her glass!!

i did a house today that has exactly the same problem. The lady who owns the house went out and left the money with her mother who was there. I clean the inside of some huge glass walls at back and as i was doing them the mother was outside pointing to there rusted marks. I just told her it was builders damage.. But these huge glass panels are totally ruined.

hi mate
had this problem before  they seem to think you can clean them out like a fairey god father the answer to the problem is the custy shold frow sum munny at a new glass pane or get the builder to compensate the custy for the dam

As said glass knckered. I often wonder how I can use these grinders and they don't burn my trousers,
And yet they  can destroy glass. Anyone know why this is?

could ask these guys

these types of services usually cost more than replacement of normal residential glazing.
Generally they are used for excessively large store front glazing and hi story glazing, where its not possible to change the glazing.
