hi  was dong a job last nght and as soon as  turned the machne on it tripped the customers fuse box.  then changed the fuse...(lucky i had a spare on board) then the pump light was on but no whirlng sound.
i also notced t had left a brown lqud on the ktchen tles from under the machine.
does anyone know if the pump has died or could it be the brushes?

I would say it would be the pump itself mate.

Also depends how old is the pump in your machine..

the pump was replaced about a year ago. cost a fortune..
do you no if there easy to replace?

Have never replaced one on a powermax also sounds like it wasnt an old one,sometimes the heat of the water does the pump in over time.

I would have a word with the people who fitted it for you or where you bought it and see if the can have a look.

When they do go the overheat and the seals go on them..

Is it a Flojet or Shurflo 100psi pump?
Do you descale regularly if you need to?
Sounds like you need a head rebuild (if you see what I mean  )

Its a Shurflo 120 psi pump, it sounds lie the brushes, get an end bell kit from woodbridge they are £29.00 + Vat.
You should be checking the brushes every 3 - 6 months depending how busy you are. It is only a 20 min job to  replace.

I know you can buy the ends with brushes fitted, but in all the time i've been cleaning
i've never had to replace the brushes in a Flojet or shurflo motor.

I used to have the powermax and had to replace the brushes twice a year, they will wear down and short out if they are not checked and replaced.

As David says there was liquid under the machine. It is either water being drawn through the vacs or the pump has overheated and blown the head. I have always found that once the pump shorts out replacing the end bell is not worth it as the windings tend to get damaged as well. Changing the end bell regularly before you have a problem is a good idea though.
