i love this job
« on: May 11, 2009, 09:57:48 am »
okay so i was up at 4.30 this morning but  getting up early has never really bothered me.
my first pub job, got there at 5.30 and the manager and chef had all ready cleared the room of tables and chairs.
cleaned 1 big carpet in the restaurant and then 3 long corner seats. chef made us bacon butties and we stood around for half an hour having a laugh, boss came in about 9 and said how good the carpet came up. left the airmover to dry the corner seats and back home for 9.30, ticket? £240.
next job at 12.30 so bit of daytime tele and a chill out for half hour.

god i love this job

Derek,  there's nothing better than being your own boss and the longer you do it the better it gets.  I know that you have the pressure of having to find work but it still beats the hell out of some boss looking over your shoulder to see what your doing.

There are days when i feel like i can't be bothered to get off my ar*e to go out and get the work but when i start work i'm like you and enjoy the crack with the custy and the fact that i don't have to answer to anyone.

Other than the wife and the taxman!

Enjoy the daytime telly - i'm playing the PS3 killing some aliens for an hour before i get off my ar*e again!

Thats a scandelous amount of money, you should have charged £ 10 per hour and been grateful for it - you're only a carpet cleaner Derek  ;D

Same here and i was lucky enough to start in my early years working for myself.

Just we forget sometimes how lucky we are to make money for ourselves and when i go into places of work i get the comment "Ah wish i could work for myself"

just got in, that was the longest day ive done, 2 jobs and 3 quotes.

£400 all together,
if i'd charged £27 an hour i'd of earned £162.

the first job, pub £240, went back at 12 o'clock to pick up the airmover, he said you can do the rest, price £150. got home and the wife said, youve had a call from one of the staff at the pub, she's seen the benches ive done and wants a quote for her 3 piece.

did a quote today for LTT and the women across the road came out for a quote on her carpets, booked it packed it another £75 quid.

second job today £160 the bloke was over the moon with the job and said he has 20 odd properties he rents out, could he call me when his tennants vacate. to bloody right ya can matey.

wish every day was like today, i'd be loaded and wouldn't have to advertise.

anyway, back to reality, just 2 quotes tomorrow and no jobs  :'( :'( :'(

derek

ps... i still love my job

Hi Guys

Well done Derek and Mark.

If you stick at it, get your advertising right  and do a good job, the 400 days start to roll into each other until you crave a day with nothing  ;)

Eventually your ad bill is a tiny and you will make a good living.

All the established CC's have one thing in common, they didn't give up.

Cheers

Doug

True,i have bit the bullet with one yellow pages book, mainly as i am just sick to death with them, they just can`t get it right for me.
Going to stay in the book i was in to start with,as that one seems to pay for itself.Going to re vamp my main website this year,it`s been running 5 years and needs a refresh.
I get a lot of work from the American forces,i did a job over 1 1/2 years ago,and saved the custy having to replace her carpet, she wrote me a glowing report, and said it will be put up permenantly on the base new letters.Best advertising i have had, there are loads of bases around here ,so always getting work from them.

Well done Derek.

Those days make up for the crap days and as mentioned over time you get more of the great days and less of the crap days. :)
