Strange recession this!
« on: May 06, 2009, 08:36:55 pm »
I just seem to be picking up work all the time at the moment - no flyers, no doorknocking. I've had work from quotes two years ago coming in along with gutter cleans and conservatories. A month ago i was scratching about for work now i'm starting to struggle to keep up. Hope it lasts.  :)

It's seasonal to an extent - make hay while the sun shines!

I too seem to be picking up more work, cons & upvc especially. My take on it is that no-one can afford to move house so people are doing up their existing properties. This being borne out by a couple of my regular customers who have just had this work done. People still have money but are scared to spend it!

Seem to be averaging around 1 new customer every week...most of it word of mouth....so the crisis does not seem to have 'hit' yet.

But it's still early days yet.

i like to think we work in pretty safe business.

yes i was worried when it all went pear shaped last year, and all the doom and gloom from the media :'(

but one of the main reasons i went in to this business was the fact that it's recession proof.

i worked in the printing industry ever since leaving school and was made redundant in my 20's

then in my 30's just got on property ladder :'(

i think if you do a good job, polite, reliable,   charge a fair price you will always have work.

there maybe an increase in w/c's around now due to redundancies,  the attraction of wfp etc.

but all our eggs are not in one basket ;)

if i lost 20% of my work i would get by.

Aren't we all lucky a cheapish to run repeat business, that's constantly growing with out having to try;   when youve been goin a couple of years :) :

intrests rates are lowest in history so there's still money around.

I know you don't have to have your windows cleaned,
but in this day and age i don't think we are that expensive.

i charge ave £7 front  and £15 allround,  over 5 weeks this is peanuts.

If you can't afford a window cleaner then you really have hit rock bottom :(

this is a good liner to use on any custy that gives it the "i bet your getting turned away alot now" ;D

stay busy everyone :)

a good window cleaners always busy ;)

:o  sorry i didn't mean to ramble on this much  :o    glad to hear your all busy.

Wait 'till you update your website!

10 vans & 20 eastern europeans working their nuts off for you while you talk to us on here, surrounded by "girls of the playboy mansion" type women, via your yacht from somewhere nice & sunny! ;D

Don't forget your buddies when you've made it though ;) ;) I'm relying on you, friend. ;)

encouraging stuff fellas, i think half the economy problem is the fear factor anyway.

Depends where you live of course. I see a major steelworks could be shedding 3000 workers. Can't be many areas that could withstand that.

we are growing to,

Averaging 20 new customers a week at the moment.

On top of that were getting loads of 1 0ffs for facia, gutters and so on. got 3 driveway cleans booked in for next week all over £400.00.

Now all we need is some sun!...... oh dear ive burst my own bubble. ;D

Up to 8000 including contractors, suppliers etc.
