Had quite a few calls regarding domestic cleans & a couple of EOT & when they ask what I charge per hour & I reply I charge per job they 9 times out of 10 say right I'll get back to you & obviously they don't, just wondered if you tend to find this?

Yes, all the time, because people like to know over the fone.

Fact is, you can charge what you like per hour, if the cleaning is no good then its a futile exercise. A per-job price means an agreed list of jobs is done for an agreed amount of money, and then everyone wins (usually).

If your other local cleaners are only willing to quote and not give an hourly rate, then you're ok, because you're all pulling in the same direction. Only if they are charging hourly rates (which i doubt) should you consider changing your structure.

Thank you Vacman.. Will stick with my price per job I believe most companies work this way is this the case with alot of offices? I have 1 office and they were fine & dandy with it.

The few domestics we have are charged by the hour - this seems to be the preferred route for 'normal' people.

Our offices are worked out initially by the hour, but the price is given for the job and this is acceptable for the business sector.

We find that after a month or so, the trust is built up and people are less concerned with clock-watching anyway.

What constitutes a 'normal' person in context? In my county, domestic cleaning is usually charged for per-job if the people doing the cleaning are bringing the materials to do the work. The per-hour basis is usually the way of the agencies who send only the labour.

I will be the first to accept that the per-job pricing is a new concept to some customers, especially the ones who have never had a cleaner or who have paid an hourly rate. However, I've never once had anyone say they didnt like the concept, in fact the idea that the work will be done and the price will be static seems to be rather welcomed. Thats not to say that all the people I have quoted have been happy with my price (though most are), but the per-job concept doesn't seem to have put anyone off. I think also it takes the pressure off the person/people doing the cleaning as they don't feel they are going to get a ticking-off for talking to the client, going to the loo, having a tea-break, etc.

The work i do is nearly all regular work. I have a price in mind which i need to acheive, when i go to the house for the first time it is to meet the people, see the house, and see what i think they will be prepared to pay. Then i decide if i want the job, should they ask me to do it. I know what the other companies are charging -more or less- and i know what avaliability of cleaners are like in the area, so i know what is considered a fair price etc.
