It was bicast.
The coating was coming off in random places like the photo shows. I presume it was the compression of the cushion casuing the leather to crease when used. I would imagine there was some problem with the leather (just that panel, probably from another hide) that caused the delamination.
We just coloured up a new panel and stitched it in.
