How much pre-Spray should I use?
« on: April 25, 2009, 09:27:09 am »
Hi Guys,  I have been cleaning for around 8 months now and generally get excellent results.  But one thing I have never been 100% sure about is how much pre-spray I should apply.  Yesterday I cleaned around 45 sq metres of wool mix medium pile carpet, and I used approx 3 litres of pre-spray gold - would you guys say that this was about right?
Is there any 'rule of thumb' re: how many sq metres per litre for pre-spray?
Appreciate any guidance here - thanks Pete

I myself tend to go by the "Universally Damp" method and I too, get excellent results every time.... You're obviously doing it right but it would be interesting to see the definitive answer. Obviously over wetting is avoided and if you weren't applying enough, your results would be rather limited.

It depends on the level of soiling, you need to put enough down to get to the bottom of the fibre when agitating.

You going to need to be a bit heavier on wool as it absorbs water, whilst the "plastic" fibre does not.
Obviously need to get it around all the fibres like has been said.

With most products, but not microsplitters, if you use 9 to 10 sqM per litre of RTU prespray as a starting point you wont go far wrong.

Experience will tell you when you need more or less.

Microsplitters typically work with perhaps half or less of that amount.

Safe and happy spraying :)

Hi Guys

Pete be careful on Belgian Wiltons where prespray should be kept to a minimum until you are sure of it's dimensional stability.

Cheers
