Doggy treats!
« on: April 05, 2009, 05:08:25 pm »
My sister has or should i say had a nice cream carpet which is 80% wool. She started to notice a few marks in the carpet and when i asked what they were she was unsure and thought they were just mud from shoes. However the marks started to show up in other places and we finally sussed that it was from dog treats that my dad was buying for her springer. Whilst having a good old munch he was drooling it all over the carpet. I assume these treats are made up from lots of grease and the marks are similar to oil stains. I have used good old citrus gel and extraction which has lightened but thats all. I think the marks have been there coming up to a year now so perhaps the grease has damaged the fibres to much.
Any suggestions to help or do you think i should be telling her to sell the dog to help fund for a new carpet?! :'(

Rich,

I'd normally expect these type of stains to come out without too much trouble, I wouldn't have thought that you would need to use something like Citrus Gel.  It's unlikely to be anything mineral oil based and if it's digestible it should be cleanable.

Have you tried with a good pre-spray and agitation?  What machine are you using to extract?

Wipe the spots with a Peice of kitchen towel whilst dry, if you get a transfer then its an oil based stain and treat with solvents. If you dont get a transfer then its a water based stain, in this case use some ph paper and if its showing acidic use a high Ph spotter if its alkali use an acidic spotter. Some dog food products have been treated with dyes at the production stage so that they can not be mixed up with food fit for human consumption.

Thats what i thought but it just not shifting >:(. My dad was buying these treats at a local market i imagine they are cheap and made up from all sorts.
I use a powermax :o

Oh and i forgot to mention my sis had used many potions from the supermarket on it before i got to it so i know that wouldn't have helped!
