Does your local paper bring much work?
« on: April 07, 2005, 06:45:45 pm »
Ours charges a fortune, often gets the text wrong and responses are usually from price sensitive shoppers.
There does however seem to be a growing number of adverts ???, but more and more weeks when ours actually doesn't get delivered.
I gave up advertising professional cleaning in the money pit, local rag years ago.

Just wondered if anyone uses them successfully?

For 3 weeks now, our local paper has placed my ad under re-upholstery with other cc's under Carpet & Upholstery cleaning.  They've also overcharged me by £90 and then had the cheek today to actually suggest that it was all my fault!

Richard/Hy-Jan, you might want to check your bank statement for the last week in Feb & the 1st week in March which is when they overcharged me.

The ad in the paper brings in the majority of calls so no wonder it's been quiet.

I put an ad in my local every week some times might even splash out on a quarter page full colour.I also occasionally place an ad in the other paper ( there are 2 by us) as well at the right times of the year.
Must say I dont get a lot of response from it,as my main winner seems to be leaflets.
I would say 6 out of 10 calls are from leaflets.

Guys,

One of the first things I learned  was that free papers are a serious waste of money (1982 )

Scott,

I do think there are certain papers which are more read and therefore more likely to produce a response.

My experience was a long time ago in N.London where there were 3 papers and all were useless.

Cheers,

Doug
