what's the best RO for 1000lts a day?

As the question asks, what is the best RO for 1000lts a day and what is the best waste ratio?
I'm running a merlin at the mo but the waste is very high. Thanks for any replies. 8) Syd

By far the best is a 40 inch RO system.

Waste is around 1 part to 1 part product.

The best place to get a good one that I know of is Gapswater <, google it.

June who runs it is very knowledgeable and will look after you very well.

June is a diamond and knows her stuff,if you need to make as much as you say she will recommend an HF5 40x40 RO.It produces loads under 50psi with no pump,if you have a pump it will produce more than a 1000ltrs lots more over 24hr period.

Agree with all the replies. We had a Merlin once. Loads of waste water and a bit of a toy. Gaps will see you right.

So these HF5 membranes, theyre low wastage? Says "high rejection rate" on the site?

High rejection rate refers to the TDS removal so that is good.

Waste is OK to run at 1 part to 1 part product so yes they are good on waste.

If you are on a water meter i wonder if such an efficient unit saves much money?

Say it saved 1000l per week there's 50,000 litres a year that didn't go down the drain.

If you have a low water pressure there like a diesel engine they take a while to run in,but once run in i`m hoping to get at least 180ltrs a hour un pumped.I`m running it with less waste at the moment to get the water pressure higher so it makes more water but it`s not working how it will yet cos i`ve not produced enough water with it.

Good stuff!!

How long do the membranes last, once "run in"? Got merlins at the moment, they go every coupla years.

I think 1000L costs about £1 from the water board, so get the waste down you will defo save money.

i run my 40x 40 with a waste ratio of 80 keep 20 to waste. the water  comes out at 003-007 dependent on the weather

its fair to say that a 40x40 is the most given to abuse and you can if your water pressure is high enough give it a good clean up each week

our water cost is 1.60 per unit so waste ration is fairly important

It comes out between 35-45 you mean or at least it was the last time i looked lol,i reckon your RO`s look like the inside of my mums washing machine lol. ;D ;D ;D :-*

NWH what sort of quatities are you talking there for the unit to be 'run-in'...as I think I have the same membrane as yourself...HF5-4040

Run it for a few days and it will improve performance wise,if you can take it somewhere that has good pressure it will run it in quicker.Just because the water gushes out of the tap on the wall does not mean that you have good pressure in all cases,if your pressure was 30psi with a HF4 you would produce little water that`s why the new HF5 is better as it works fantasic on good pressure but still really good on low pressure,the Merlin is pointless on low pressure and any 1 who is thinking of getting 1 should test there water pressure first before they buy 1.At 30psi with a merlin the water after RO would be a joke probobly the reading of a 40x40 coming to the end of it`s life.

I have 2 pre filters in front of mine and they should last 3-4 years if looked after if not longer all depends on how much there producing and the quality of the input water.
