Hi Expro,
I tried to get funding out of proskills to attend an LTT leather course, but was unsuccessful. I live in the south west region and was told that the funding available varies from region to region, so you may have better luck!  In the first instance contact proskills on 01235 432032 - this is their national number, they will then direct you to your regional manager.  Good luck. Pete.

The Proskills funding is at the moment primarily focused on the furniture industry.  Funding for LTT courses would be for the full 4 day course.  As has been said the funding varies from region to region and I know some have managed to get it whilst others haven't but it is worth trying to see.  Courses also have to be approved for funding.

Funding would not be available for cleaning courses from Proskills but I know from the board meeting I attended that there is a lot of money for training available from all sorts of different 'pots' so it is always worth investigating several sources.  Try Business Link in your area who have a lot of investment at the moment for small businesses.

Hope this helps

Before christmas I spoke to proskills who are part of business link to see what help was out their for us (Partnership husband and wife team).

They said basicly if we had employed staff they would help with the cost of training but not for the us as partners.

To tell you the truth I thought they were as much help as a chocolate teapot.

Proskills are not part of business link and funding money is changing all the time - even from day to day so it is always worth checking.  We are receiving notification of people getting funding all the time so we know that it is there.

Business Link have changed dramatically over the last 6 months so even if you have tried before it is worth trying again.

I have been investigating train to gain.  There is a possibility you could get training for your staff.

Problem is they want them to get a NVQ at the end of it. As far as I know no Carpet Cleaning Training Company offers a NVQ system.

I am amazed none of them have looked into it.

I am told you can get Management training for yourself but again it might be you need to employ staff to qualify

I was offered a set of courses by one company under train to gain but did not want to do that set of courses.

Also best to check funding is available even if training provider tells you you qualify.

It appears to me Train To Gain trys to push you towards colleges and their mates training companies but I am still investigating

So basically if you are a 1 man operation or working with you wife and do not employ any staff then you are entitled to nothing, seems unfair to me ???

It's the same accross the board, before leaving the Navy I was entitled to a £1500 resettlement fund, did I take it, no way. The hoops you had to jump through were unreal, so many forms to fill out, get this stamped by your divisional officer who had to be a Lt Cdr or above, this also has to be signed by this other officer and get the other witnessing officer to sign. Send it to Portsmouth where someone had to ok it, sign it, then bring it back to the guy who's giving me  this hoop jumping information. I pushed the paper work back in his direction and simply said "No thanks!"

I believe they have to be seen to be offering something for free but don't really want to give you a single penny.
