A different hard floor question
« on: March 04, 2009, 05:49:42 pm »
Again I know that this should perhaps be in the general cleaning section but I bow to the superior knowledge I usually find here.

I don't have anything to do with hard floors but whilst cleaning some office carpets for good friends of mine they showed me another office.

There, the bitumen backed tiles had be ripped up from the underlying (looks like) hard plastic tiles which obviously cover the concrete floor.

This had left a residue of glue and backing from the carpet tiles stuck to the plastic tiles.

Anybody know how to get rid of this residue? There could be a job for somebody if they want it in the Thelwall/Warrington area.

I said I would ask the question and see if I could get any sensible answers for my friends.

I'd have thought a solvent, years ago i used some rubbing solvent n something like this but for H&S reasons I'd have thought it was illegal, we used a pizza paddle style scraper and stood up and pushed and scrubbed it off.

I think the general cleaning section would still offer you more.

They sound like Marley tiles,i would try Aquamix sealer & coating remover, test a small area first but i bet it works.

I can see why you want to pass the job on. what a pain it would be.I would not use a solvent
because this would discolour the tiles and may melt the adhesive underneath them. I would suggest
you contact F Ball & Co who make flooring adhesives. They may be able to help.If the adhesive
is opaque then i would try Hot water and detergent and a rotary machine fitted with a stiff brush
or black build up removal pad.
