got stopped in van to day bymold couple asked me to give them a price large four bed house i said cheapest i can do is twenty quid they nearly had a heart atack more or less said i was a robing git nice aint it

I had similar yesturday with a £10 semi; the customers took an immediate dislike to me!

as long as you don't give them the price after you do the job , you have to wonder what's going through their minds.
i once quoted a job for £11 and the guy accepted it. when i got home there was an email from him saying the wife wasn't happy, the old window cleaner charged less than half and she would rather clean them herself.
that was about a year ago and i clean the neighbours windows, i don't think she's touched them yet :

I think it's the old chestnut of the 'perception of a window cleaner' syndrome. 

We should all be as cheap as chips, since we're worthless, unskilled individuals; not fit for a proper job; it's just a bit of 'beer money' really.

But really, those who think this, it reflects on the calibre of person they are.

i think a lot of the perception is about whether they have run there own business or not most people who have been self employed know that it doesn't go into your pocket and realise that they are paying for a service. employed people think your making a fortune. i have found if dealing with business people you are on a much better understanding.

also about self perseption. if you are confident and know your own worth you are more likely to get the jobs at a higher price.
how many of us  have jobs from when we started cleaning that were totally underpriced and how often would we cut a price nervously cause we were told it was to much, even though we now know it was underpriced to start with

Had women phone for a quote for a 2 bed and told her my cost and she turned round and said well my old w/c charged me £3 so i'll have to think about it. Why and how can anyone make a living through charging prices like that,  no wonder he aint around no more, either that or she was pulling a fast one.
