With the imminent arrival of a new van and shiny new system I am seriously thinking of getting a tracker system fitted as there is a definite increase in Stolen WFP vans.

Does anyone have either of these services and if so why did you go for your one?

I think that they both offer similar services (depending on level of cover).

I have looked on both of the websites and the Tracker website is definitely more informative although I think that the product is slightly more expensive. The Trackstar website is very poor for actual user information and specifications, but looks a cheaper option, I think.

I am going to use them for my for my new vans.

They give a good online demo and the costs are minimal for a really together system. I have been looking at loads over the last six months. I think these are the ones to go for.

Isn't Tracker the only company that has the contract with the Police? Or does this not matter now? Ie the tracking company will track the vehicle and pass on the vehicles whereabouts to the Police?

ive seen the tracker working, i had a demo of it ( for my campervan ) after the mobile phone idea didnt go as well as i would have liked

the cost was just over 600 quid, this was for them to install and tracking whilst i owned the van ( you do realise that when you buy the package it was 600 quid you get tracking for the time you own the van, no more fee's )

its the option i was going to go for to be honest, 600 quid for the lifetime of the van, not that much to be honest, the van failed its MOT so didnt get done ( i will get it done this spring if i deem the mobile tracking thing hasnt improved )

I have the tracker fitted to the quad. As matt says, £300 for install & £350 for cover for as long as you own the vehicle. If you acknowledge it stolen, the police are involved including the helicopters.
Quite often I move the quad on the back of a flatbed. Within 2 miles a get a mobile call & you enter a response: key 1 for stolen, key 2 for need more time, key 3 for moving without key.
When I take it for service in Winchester, it can akec14 miles to respond, so depends on area.

Here is a email i recieved from a local cornish firm who uses fleetmatics

I have been asked to contact you with regards to the Tracking system that we have installed on our delivery vehicles.

The company that we have used are called Fleetmatics.

 

Fleetmatics install receivers in each of the vehicles which transmit all the data every 90 seconds. This data includes the following:

           

Current location

            Current speed

            Engine running

            Engine switched off etc.

 

You are then able to check all current and previous data on their website using your own unique log on details.

Our objectives for using this system were a range of different reasons. We wanted to produce a more efficient route schedule, by reducing excess mileage etc, and making sure the routes we designed were not unrealistic.

The system would also provide us with the tracking of a vehicle if it was ever stolen.

We are able to locate any vehicle at any time without having to make a telephone call.

We are able to ensure that all the drivers are adhering to the speed limits and rest breaks.

We can prove to the Inland Revenue that the vehicles are only used for business or commuting.

 

There are various benefits to using a system such as Fleetmatics. We have found the system to be very useful and the company have always been professional about their operation and approach.

I have now emailed both firms asking them to tell me the benefits of each product compared to their competitors offering.

I am not really interested in monitoring the vehicle as part of a fleet as generally I will know exactly where it is.

Yes, as I really have no interest in tracking where the van is most of the time as I will be behind the wheel or it will be parked at the firms address. No employees will be driving it so we will not need to 'keep' tabs' on them.

The Cobra solution looks good as they offer a version which does allow you to track it from your computer and even remotely lock the vehicle if you have forgotten to do so.

It also will be alerted even if you leave your keys in the vehicle as it relys on a card in your pocket not a transponder on the key to do self alert.

It costs £199 per year or £549 for 3 years and can be transferred from one vehicle to another.

Seems like a fairly good £199 for complete peace of mind.
