This week I have learnt............

NEVER, EVER, EVER, connect your battery to your pump to see if the water will come through if it seem to be frozen; I have to fork out £100 for a new one on Monday after my current pump burnt out!!!

I DO NOT wish to return to working from a ladder; after spending two days having to work the old fashioned way. I forgot how heavy a double 18 wooden ladder is, and the skrims wouldn't dry out, and it was DEFINATELY slower, and I was knackered when I arrived home!!!

To appreciate my WFP, despite the fact that the hoses catch on everything, and very occasionally kink; the alternative doesn't appeal at all.

Also, a question for users of 8mm hoses: I'm using Monday as an opportunity to fit a 100psi pump instead of another 60psi model to allow me to change hoses from my present 12.5mm to a nice slim one. I'm assuming it'll be lighter to pull around and having 100m insteadof 50m plus an extension appeals to me. Are there any downsides to a slimmer hose or is it all good

ok though if you are mindful in freezing conditions and keep the water flowing and dont let it sit on freezing ground cos it will soon freeze

I assume the connectors on the ends of my poles will need changing too; is that right?

What about replacements??

At the moment, if a connector breaks or starts to leak a quick visit to B&Q sorts the problem. Are the small connectors as easy to find 'cause Varitech is a good 30 miles from me?

Buy some spare connections and keep them and a couple of tools in your vehicle, problem solved.

I'd say half inch to 8mm is at least half the weight to pull out.You won't believe how easy it will be.  Whats the flow rate of your new pump?  It might be 100 psi but if it's only a 4 lpm it might struggle with a 100m 8mm hose.  I've got flojets 100psi at 8lpm and I still like them turned up high.

I had a similar problem with both my pumps, ice cracked the pressure switches off.  All day Monday working on them and then Tuesday waiting for deliveries.  My new rule, drain the pumps completely ahead of freezing cold nights.

Just stick a small 500w heater in van on freezing nights roughly 50 pence per night.

I use one flojet 100 psi 3 yr old plus, and 2x 100 metre x 8 mm microbore, 2 operators and have to ease the flow off a bit with the bypass system when using it.

Changing from 12.5mm to smaller bore was one of the better things I've done.  Can fit a lot more on a reel too so saves daisychaining.

Don't know what connectors you currently use.  I just jubilee clip a small piece of 12.5mm hose to either end of the hose on the reel and carry on with the same (hozelock type) connectors.
